Coach Rachel
Rachel's swimming journey began in Illinois where she competed in the hustling Chicagoland swim landscape for 13 years, where she refined her athletic skills and developed her future coaching style under the guidance of Rob Emary at BSC. Her swimming took her to embark a collegiate career at Grand Valley State University, where she contributed to GVSU's consistent top 5 Division II rankings and assisted the women's team in securing several GLIAC titles as a sprint breast/fly/free specialist.
Rachel graduated from GVSU with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in medical devices and pharmaceuticals. She practiced her degree as a Research & Product Design Engineer for three years but ultimately returned to her passion for the pool. With nearly 20 years of swimming experience and a few summers as a summer league coach from her time in Chicago, Rachel is excited to share her knowledge and guide athletes on their own journey.
Her engineering background gives her a unique, detail-oriented approach to race strategies and systematically breaking down training sessions to work on technique and fun in every practice. She enjoys coaching and encouraging athletes to be well-rounded and multi-talented, not only for a successful athletic career but also for a fulfilling life outside of the pool.
Rachel practices what she preaches by swimming with our Masters Team and enjoys being an avid outdoorswoman, DIY-er, and living the beach life with her dog when she's not at the pool.
